How can we help?
Plain answers about using Hustle, and about pay when you have more than one job.
Getting started
How do I add my jobs?
When you first sign in, Hustle walks you through adding each job: its name, colour, pay rate and when it pays. You can add more, or change one, any time in Settings › Jobs.
How do I get my rota in?
Tap Import rota and add a photo or screenshot (up to 5), or paste the text. Hustle reads the shifts, matches them to your jobs and shows them to you.
Nothing is saved until you review it and press Import.
Can I add a shift by hand?
Yes. Tap Add (the + on phones), pick the job, the day and the times. Hustle works out the hours and the pay estimate as soon as it’s saved.
I have three jobs. Does it work?
Yes. Add as many jobs as you have; each one gets its own colour.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in the browser. Add it to your home screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen on iPhone) and it opens like an app, no app store.
Does it work without signal?
No, Hustle needs an internet connection to open your data and save changes. If you add a shift on a weak signal, check it has saved before you close the app.
Your pay
Is it my exact pay?
No, it’s an estimate from your shifts and settings. A pension, a student loan, a different tax code or anything your employer does differently will change the real number. Your payslip has the real figures.
Why does my second job take more tax?
Your tax-free allowance usually goes on one job. A second job is often on tax code BR (SBR in Scotland), which takes basic-rate tax from the first pound. Add each job’s tax code and the estimate follows it, for the codes Hustle supports.
Where do I put my tax code?
Settings › Jobs, pick the job, then Tax & NI. Your tax code is on your payslip, P45 or P60.
If your payslip shows W1, M1 or X next to the code, type just the code (like 1257L) and choose Week 1 / Month 1 as the tax basis.
Hustle estimates codes like 1257L, BR, D0, D1, NT and 0T, with S in front for Scotland or C for Wales. Other codes, such as K codes, can be saved, but Pay will say it can’t estimate them.
I started a job partway through the tax year. Can I add my payslip figures?
Yes. In the job’s Tax & NI, open Payslip starting point and enter your latest payslip’s date, your taxable pay to date and the tax paid to date, so the tax estimate starts from the right place.
What’s an emergency tax code?
A temporary code (often ending in W1, M1 or X) used when your employer doesn’t have your full details yet, for example when you start a new job. It usually sorts itself out once HMRC updates your record.
Do I pay National Insurance on both jobs?
National Insurance is worked out for each job on its own, against that job’s pay. Earn under the threshold in one job and you may pay none on it, even if your jobs add up to more.
Why wasn’t I paid for the week I just worked?
Many jobs pay a week or a month behind. Hustle’s paydays follow each job’s own pay settings, so you can see when this week’s shifts should be paid.
Is there a limit on hours across my jobs?
Most adults can’t be made to work more than 48 hours a week on average, across all jobs, unless they choose to opt out. Hustle shows your hours by job and in total so you can see where you are.
Which tax years does it cover?
2026/27, for jobs paid weekly or monthly, National Insurance category A.
I’m paid every four weeks. Does it work?
You can set a job to Four-weekly and keep all its shifts and hours in Hustle. Tax and National Insurance estimates are for weekly and monthly pay only for now, so for a four-weekly job Pay says it can’t estimate yet rather than show a wrong number. Fortnightly pay isn’t a choice yet.
Your account and data
Is Hustle free?
Yes, during early access. A paid plan comes later, and we’ll say so here and in the app before anything changes. Free AI has a monthly allowance: 40 Chat questions and 10 rota imports.
What happens when the free AI runs out?
Free AI gives you 40 Chat questions and 10 rota imports a month, and Chat shows how many you have left. When it’s used up you can add your own OpenAI key, or keep adding shifts by hand. The allowance starts again on the 1st of each month.
Can I use my own OpenAI key?
Yes. Go to Settings › App & data and, under Your own OpenAI key, paste your key and tap Save key. Chat and Import then use your key first, and OpenAI bills you for what you use. Hustle keeps the key encrypted on its server; once saved it can’t be shown again, only replaced or removed.
Do I need to connect my bank?
No. Hustle never asks for your bank login. Anything in the money tracker is typed in by you.
What does the AI see?
Only what you send when you use Import or Chat. To read your rota, Hustle sends the screenshots or text, plus your job names, to OpenAI. AI answers send your message, recent chat and a summary of your shifts and pay to OpenAI.
Questions Hustle can answer on your phone aren’t sent.
Can my employer see it?
No. Only you can see your Hustle. If you copy an availability message, you choose who gets it.
What makes a good password for Hustle?
At least 8 characters, with a capital letter, a number and a symbol. Three random words joined up are easy to remember and hard to guess, like “Kettle-bus-Tuesday7”. A password you already sign in with keeps working; the rule applies when you choose a new one.
I signed up with Google. Can I use a password too?
Yes. On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password? and enter your Google email. The link adds a Hustle password to the same account, with the same shifts and pay. Continue with Google keeps working, and your Google password doesn’t change.
I didn’t get the confirmation or welcome email
Check your spam or junk folder and search for Hustle. The welcome email comes once, after your email address is confirmed (straight away with Google). In Chat or Import rota, tap Send link to get the confirmation email again; if it still doesn’t arrive, contact us.
Can I hide my pay when someone else can see my screen?
Yes. Tap the eye beside your estimated in hand (on Home or Pay), your balances (on Money) or Today (on the Calendar) and every amount turns to shimmering ink. Hold one to peek at it; on the Calendar, the eye shows them all again. In Settings › App & data › Privacy you can choose Tap to show instead. Hustle remembers the choice on that device, so it opens hidden next time.
How do I contact Hustle?
In the app, go to Settings › App & data › Help & contact and choose Contact us; your email is already filled in. Or use Contact at the bottom of any page on the website. Pick what it’s about, write a few words and send.
How do I clear my data or delete my account?
Settings › App & data: Clear all shifts (your jobs stay), Full reset (deletes your Hustle data but keeps your login and saved AI key), or Delete my account (everything, including your login; type DELETE to confirm).
With Data lock on, Full reset also turns it off, and it needs a recent sign-in.
Can I download a copy of my data?
Not from the app yet. To ask for a copy of what Hustle holds about you, use the Contact page (pick My data) or email privacy@hustlepay.co.uk. Your availability can be copied any time as a message for your manager.
With Data lock on, we can’t read your shifts, jobs, pay settings or money, so a copy from us only has what we can see, like your email and sign-in.
Devices and sign-in
How do I see where I’m signed in?
Settings › App & data › Devices. It shows each phone and computer, its browser (or the Hustle app), an approximate town and country, and when it was last active.
Why does the location look wrong?
It’s worked out from the internet connection, so it can show a nearby town, your mobile network’s hub, or a VPN’s country. Hustle doesn’t keep the internet address itself.
I lost my phone. What should I do?
On another device, open Settings › App & data › Devices and choose Sign out of all other devices, then change your password. With Data lock, remove that phone’s Face ID too, in Settings › App & data › Data lock.
I got a “new sign-in” email I don’t recognise.
Sign in and choose This wasn’t me (on the card on Home, or on that device in Devices). It walks you through signing out every other device, changing your password and checking Data lock. Hustle never asks for your password by email.
What does “This wasn’t me” do?
It helps you sign out every other device straight away, then change your password and check Data lock. Each step is your choice, and it doesn’t delete anything or lock you out. If you can’t sign in at all, reset your password from the sign-in page, then choose This wasn’t me.
Why was I asked to sign in again?
Hustle signs every device out after 30 days, or straight away if you signed it out from another device. Your data is all still there; sign in again to carry on. Settings › App & data shows when you’ll next be asked.
Does signing out a device remove its Face ID for Data lock?
No. Signing out stops it reaching your account; remove its Face ID in Settings › App & data › Data lock if you won’t use that device again.
How do I change my password?
Settings › App & data › Password, if you sign in with an email and password: your current password first, then the new one. Your other devices are then asked to sign in again. If you sign in with Google, change your password in your Google account.
Use Hustle with ChatGPT or Claude
How do I connect ChatGPT or Claude?
In Hustle, open Settings › App & data › Connected apps, turn on Share my timetable and copy the address.
In Claude: Settings › Connectors (or Customize › Connectors) › Add custom connector, paste the address, then Connect. In ChatGPT, on a computer: Plugins › Add › Add custom MCP server, paste the address as the Server URL and choose OAuth, then Create as a plugin and Install. Either way, Hustle’s own page opens: sign in and press Allow.
What can it see?
Your shift days and times for the last week and the next 8 weeks, job names (or Job 1, Job 2 if you choose), the days you’re not working (never why), your protected days (with their notes only if you choose) and payday dates. Never your pay, rates, estimates, tax, money, or shift and leave notes.
Can it change my shifts?
No. It can only read your timetable. Nothing it does changes anything in Hustle.
Does it work with Data lock?
Yes. Hustle on your phone or computer sends the timetable only after you unlock, already locked to each app, and sends a fresh copy when something changes. If an app says nothing has been shared yet, open Hustle once.
Can Hustle read what I ask ChatGPT or Claude?
No. Hustle only gets the app’s request for your timetable (which days it asked about) and keeps only when it last asked. What you write in ChatGPT or Claude is covered by OpenAI’s or Anthropic’s terms.
How do I stop it?
Settings › App & data › Connected apps: turn sharing off to pause every app, or press Disconnect next to one. Disconnecting stops it at once and deletes its copy of your timetable. This wasn’t me can disconnect every app too.
Which plans work?
Claude: every plan (the free plan allows one custom connector). ChatGPT: plans that let you add your own plugins on chatgpt.com. Once Hustle is in ChatGPT’s plugin directory, you’ll be able to search for it there.
Your shifts in Google Calendar
How do I see my shifts in Google Calendar?
Open Settings › App & data › Google Calendar and press Connect Google Calendar. Hustle makes a calendar called “Hustle shifts” and keeps it up to date whenever you open Hustle. Booking tools like Cal.com can check it to see when you’re busy.
What does Google get?
Each shift’s start and end time, titled “Work” (or the job’s name if you turn that on). Never pay, rates, estimates, notes or leave. Your device sends them straight to Google.
How do I stop it?
Press Disconnect Google Calendar. Hustle deletes the “Hustle shifts” calendar from Google.
Data lock
What is Data lock?
Data lock means only you can read your data. Not even Hustle. Your shifts, jobs, pay settings and money are locked on your device with a key only you hold, before they’re saved. Hustle stores them locked and can’t open them. The one exception is what you send to Chat or rota import, below.
New accounts set it up when they get started. If you skipped that or joined before, turn it on from To do on Home, or in Settings › App & data › Data lock.
Hustle can still see your name and email, how you sign in, how much of the free AI you use, how many records you’ve saved, how big they are and when, and the rest of what Privacy lists that isn’t your shifts, jobs, pay settings or money (like how many recovery codes you have left). Not your shifts, pay or money.
How do I unlock Hustle?
Any one of these opens your data: Face ID or fingerprint (on a computer, Windows Hello or Touch ID), your unlock password, or a recovery code from your Recovery Kit.
Your unlock password is separate from the password you sign in with. After using a recovery code you choose a new unlock password.
You choose when Hustle asks, on each device, in Settings › App & data › Data lock: Every time (each time it opens or reloads), After 15 min (the usual: a reload doesn’t ask; it asks again after 15 minutes without use, or once you close it) or At sign-out (only after you sign out, or after your unlock password changes on another device; only for a device that’s yours alone).
Which phones and computers can use Face ID or fingerprint?
Most recent ones: iPhone and iPad (iOS 18.4 or later), Mac in Safari, Android phones in Chrome with Google Password Manager, and Windows 11 with Windows Hello in Chrome or Edge.
Older phones, Windows 10 and some password managers can’t. Hustle says so when you set it up, and your unlock password or a recovery code works instead, on any device.
How do I remove Face ID from a device, or a lost phone?
Go to Settings › App & data › Data lock. Under Devices that unlock without a password, each one shows its kind of device and the day it was added; choose Remove next to it. That device then needs your unlock password or a recovery code. Where the browser allows, removing this device’s Face ID also deletes the Hustle passkey from its passwords list.
Lost that device? Remove it, then change your unlock password: if Hustle on it was set to stay unlocked, it asks again the next time it opens Hustle online.
What is the Recovery Kit?
Your Recovery Kit is 10 recovery codes, made when you set up Data lock. If you can’t use Face ID or your unlock password, any one code unlocks your data, and you then choose a new unlock password. You type one code, never all of them.
Each code works once. Hustle shows how many you have left, and suggests making new codes when you’re down to 3.
Keep it somewhere safe and offline, like printed at home or in a password manager. Not in your email or photos. The codes and the Recovery Kit file you download are made on your device and never sent to Hustle, so we can’t send them to you again.
To make new codes, go to Settings › App & data › Data lock, then Make new codes. Your old codes stop working straight away.
I’ve got a new phone. How do I get my data?
Sign in as usual, then unlock with your unlock password or a recovery code (Face ID or fingerprint from your old phone may not work on the new one). To use Face ID or fingerprint there too, go to Settings › App & data › Data lock and choose Add this device.
I reset my sign-in password. Why is my data still locked?
Resetting your password by email gets you back into your account, but it can’t open locked data. Unlock with Face ID, your unlock password or a recovery code, as usual.
I’ve lost every way to unlock. What now?
If you can’t use Face ID or fingerprint, don’t know your unlock password and have no recovery codes left, nobody can open your locked data, not even Hustle. We can’t reset Data lock for you, because only you hold the key.
You can start fresh: on the unlock screen, tap Can’t unlock?, then Start fresh. Like a Full reset, it deletes your shifts, jobs, pay settings and money; your login, name, saved AI key and AI usage counts stay, and you set up Hustle again from empty.
Do Chat and rota import still work?
Yes. When you ask Chat or import a rota, your device sends what that one request needs through Hustle’s server to the AI to get your answer. It can be read while it’s answered, just as without Data lock, and Hustle doesn’t keep it.
How do I turn Data lock off?
Settings › App & data › Data lock, then Turn off Data lock. Hustle may ask you to confirm it’s you first. Keep Hustle open while it unlocks your data.
With Data lock off, Hustle can read your data again, and resetting your password by email gets you back to everything.
Still stuck?
